"Colours spread by its own logic. The problem starts when you begin to depend on certain shapes. It is like discovering an entire notation for a new language. A very personal vocabulary begins to evolve. It communicates very little, sometimes nothing! My works are my confession of my despair."

With a First Class Diploma in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai, Karuna Moorthy has been the recipient of Tamil Nadu State Lalit Kala Akademi award twice and also the Honourable Mention in the National Exhibition as well as the Government of India Junior Fellowship. He has attended on invitation artists workshops in different disciplines like graphics, terracotta, ceramics and stone carving including the 'Group X3' workshop by the British Council Division at Chennai. He has also participated in several important group exhibitions such as the National Exhibitions of Art, VIl Triennale at New Delhi, Bharat Bhavan Biennale, Bhopal and those organised by various State Lalit Kala Akademis and other major organisations. His creations are found in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and the Regional Centre, Chennai, the Contemporary Art Gallery of the Government Museum, Chennai and several other corporate houses. Kauramoorthy has been in charge of the Ceramics Workshop at the Regional Centre of the Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai for a number of years.
