Ilango was born on 17th March 1950, in Gobichettipalayam, Tamilnadu. He completed his post graduation in Mathematics, in Bangalore University during the year 1973. Though he studied mathematics, his interests lie in folklore temple art and architecture of Tamilnadu. He is currently living with his family and working as a professor of Maths and a freelance artist in Chennai.
