Gayathri graduated in Interior Design from Madras University '97, after which she spent a year and a half at Ahmedabad's Kanoria Centre for Art where she specialized in Graphics. She is currently working at the Chennai Lalit Kala Studio in the Print making Department.
Gayathri's art is based on everyday experiences and thoughts that translate into her work. Her work usually reflects her surroundings and present day experience. It could be a small incident of a morning coffee or a new place with colourful people that she's seen. Her present day work reflects these incidents but her style is largely derived from the action painter, Jackson Pollock. His splashes of colour to her seem to look like figures and deep jungles with fascinating animals, which she in turn, incorporates into her work and experience.
