This diploma holder in Fine Arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Chennai, has distinguished himself by winning the National. Regional and State Lalit Kala Akademi awards besides a research grant from the Lalit Kala Academi. Apart from a few one-man shows, Bhavani Shankar has participated in several important group exhibitions like Contemporary Print Making (Festival of India), USA International Mini Prints, Spain, Bharat Bhavan Print Biennale, Bhopal, National and Regional Exhibitions, State Lalit Kala Akademi shows etc. He took part in the International Tapestry Camp organised by the Max Mueller Bhavan, Chennai at Calicut, Graphics Worshop with Prof. Paul Lingren conducted by the U.S.I.S., Chennai and a few other camaps. Organisations which own his works include the United States Library of Congress, Washington, National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and its Regional Centre at Chennai and the State Lalit Kala Akademi. He has recently entered the film world as an art dierector.

Style

Abstract triangles, circles all juxtaposed between small details, colours, maps and galaxies. Very soothing and yet triggers a thought process on Life, the Universe and almost everything. Bhavani's favourite medium is inks / watercolours / dry pastels on paper. He is also well known for his art direction in TV serials and films like "Anjali". He builds models for architects.
