- Gallery 181 is seeking artists for its upcoming exhibition "HONORING MEMORY: (Recalling 9-11 and Other Human Travesties)". Rather than turning us against each other, as those responsible for acts of inconceivable cruelty would have it, they unite us and strengthen us against a barrier of aggression. This is evident in the outpouring of faith and kindness present in the general population as a reaction to 9-11 and other tragedies. It is in this spirit that we are seeking art as a documentation of truth and hope in the face of indescribable suffering. This can manifest personally, as well as collectively for this upcoming exhibition. Entry fee. For a prospectus write to: Gallery 181, Box 468, Beverly MA 01915 OR call: 978-741-7979 OR email: gallery-181@hotmail.com OR see: http://www.caladangallery.com/sites/gallery181. - Millies Movie Mural Competition - Your art could be featured in our film! Award-Winning Director Lorre Fritchy is teaming with Gallery 181 to host a contest that will determine the winning artist to create paintings featured in Fritchy's upcoming feature film, "Millies," to be filmed in and around Lawrence, MA in 2008. In the film, a troubled group of mill workers returns from 1912 to convince a bankrupt mill owner that her future is the key to their past. The paintings are significant in the subplot between the mill owner and a delinquent Latino youth. Images should represent the theme of "Mill Ghosts" - see mill buildings themselves as characters in a story, what history or industry has happened there, what dichotomy of the rich and the poor they represent, how do old mills fit into the modern world? Show us your inner Millie! Some entries will be selected for a special exhibit at Gallery 181 in Lawrence from September 10 to October 11, 2007. The winner will be announced at a reception October 5th, 2007. Submissions accepted via email or CD. Entry fees are $35 for up to three entries. To contact the director, email: lorre@masterpeaceproductions.com. Artists must be 18+ and must submit an entry form available at: www.MilliesMovie.com.
